Chef Series: John Liu (Chifa restaurant, LA)

Chef: March 2021’s featured Chef is John Liu, Head Chef at Eagle Rock’s Chifa restaurant. While traveling worldwide for fashion shows with his brother-in-law (Humberto Leon of Opening Ceremony and Kenzo) & the rest of their extended family, Liu & the matriarch of the family (Wendy Leon) became in-house cooks for their growing crew. This led to catering jobs during fashion weeks across the world, & ultimately, a newly opened restaurant in Los Angeles. Chifa is, at its heart, a family restaurant mixing Chinese cooking with his wife’s Chinese-Peruvian background.

Charity: Chosen by the chef, net proceeds from this month's sales will go to Downtown Women’s Center the only organization in LA, focused on serving & empowering women experiencing homelessness & formerly homeless women. 

Hummus Flavor: Chinese Black Bean Hummus - A unique twist on traditional flavors. Fermented black beans & ginger, folded with roasted garlic puree. Topped with a stir-fried mix of black bean, minced scallion & red chili pepper, for some subtle heat.
